New layout

After being so damned sick of blogger's restricted post width, I found a tutorial on how to change the HTML around - something I'm not too knowledgeable of - to do such a feat.

Unfortunately, they didn't have a guide for the TicTac template, so I had to change it back to the Minimal (or whatever it's called).

Enjoy.

New Star Wars game to be unveiled at Spike's 2009 VGAs

We're already getting a gameplay trailer for Halo: Reach. Now we're supposed to be getting an unveiling for a new Star Wars game. Kotaku throws out the possibilities of Battlefront, a new X-Wing game, and Masters of Teras Kasi 2.

My guess - and what I hope for - is The Force Unleashed 2. I haven't gotten my hands on Ultimate Sith Edition, nor have I played any of the Infinities DLC packs (although I'm trying to get it for Christmas), I wouldn't doubt it if Lucas Arts would try to expand on the Infinities story arc and keep the Starkiller story going. And for that, I would be ever grateful.

Remember that FFXIII 360 Twitter thing? It's done. You get a Chocobo for your Avatar.

Yea, a Chocobo. For your 360 avatar. In December. For free.

That is all.

Miyamoto thinks his college degree wouldn't land him a game design job today...is it worth it?

I picked this up from Joystiq while at work, and it was a bit disheartening to read:

Nintendo has become one of those companies that graduates from colleges and good universities really want to work for ... I often say to [Nintendo head] Mr. Iwata: 'If I was applying for a job here today, I, with my actual college degree, would probably not have been employed by Nintendo.

Goddamnit. I did not want to see this, considering if the Father of Modern Gaming wouldn't get a job at The House Mario Built based on his college degree today - what that degree is, I don't remember - then what's the point of getting into game development? It is an over-saturated job market, with more than enough people trying to get a job in it.

Really, the only way I see a way in is to make your own game. Hell, that's how Portal started, and look at that. A Digi-Pen graduate end-of-your-tenure video game project was picked up by Valve, hired by Gabe Newell on the spot and intertwined into Half-Life's story. Great, now I need that success story and I'll be set.

Dead Space 2 confirmed by OPM?

It's hard for me to abbreviated the Official PlayStation Magazine as OPM, as the federal building I work in has the same initials.

Getting to the really good stuff, TOPM (there we go) - as with every other magazine - is teasing their next issue at the hind-end of it, with an image of a grotesque beast seen through a strange, yet familiar, visage. Now, one wouldn't understand this, unless they played last year's survival-horror offering by EA, Dead Space. This visage is giving you the impression you are viewing the creature through the eyes of Issac, the protagonist from Dead Space 1, or through another miner.

Seeing as how the image is portrayed, does this mean Dead Space 2 will have FPS moments, or is this just part of the teaser?

I don't want to spoil the image, so hit the link below to the original story.

Sony confirms future 3D capabilites via PS3 firmware upgrade

It was announced during a meeting with their investors, Sony actually confirmed that the PS3 would be getting 3D capabilities via a firmware update, however, it doesn't mean jack shit unless you have a 3D capable TV and the glasses.

James Cameron's Avatar video game will have 3D capabilities, however, Sony didn't mention whether or not this would apply to 3D Blu-ray movies.

Couple this with the Sphere, the rumored name of Sony's PSWii Remote, the PS3 is shaping up to be a decent system, asides from, well, God of War III. On that note, just played the demo, and it's ba-dass.

More HD Compilations

So I've been playing God of War Collection recently, after getting nearly all achievements in Assassin's Creed 2 (all 100 feathers? Really, now?), and I'm liking what I'm seeing. GoW1 still has that absolutely retarded use of the R2 button for the in-game context sensitive parts (opening doors, mainly) as I was hoping they would change that. Of course not.

Anyways, it gets me thinking to what other series companies should be on the lookout, and after going through my collection of current-gen/last-gen games, I've got a nice wish list, which many would probably agree with:
  • BloodRayne (360 & PS3)
  • Halo 1 & 2 (360)
  • Grand Theft Auto III/Vice City/San Andreas (360 & PS3)
  • Devil May Cry 1, 2 & 3 (360 & PS3)
  • Final Fantasy X & XII (PS3)
  • Ico & Shadow of the Colossus (PS3)
  • Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 & 3 (PS3)
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Warrior Within & The Two Thrones (360 & PS3)
  • Splinter Cell 1, Pandora Tomorrow & Chaos Theory (360)
  • Turok 1, Seeds of Evil, Shadow of Oblivion & maybe Evolution (360 & PS3)
It's a hell of a wishlist. But bring these guys to current-gen systems (360 compilations would more than likely require a disc per game) would have developers weed out a few guys to work on the HD-ifing process. Considering the GoW Collection took, what, a few months to crank out, this wouldn't be a problem, especially for Square, as they could have both games done in a week. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they released each game separately. The reason why I left out the PSOne era, as well as XI, is because, well, you can't really make HD out of the 32-bit era without completely redoing the game. It's like trying to turn a DeLorean (and when I say "DeLorean," I'm talking about the 80's model that would fall apart doing 88) into a stock car just by giving it a new shell; you've gotta do the whole goddamned thing.

BioShock 2 Special Edition Announced, 100th Blog Post

Image via Joystiq

In what is to believed by myself to be one of the best special editions to be made, BioShock 2's special edition has shat all over everything else. Even the Big Daddy figurine.

  • 164-page hardcover art book
  • Three posters (what I believe are the same ones included in those plastic wine bottles that were scattered alongside beaches...you do remember that, right?)
  • BioShock 2's orchestral score on a CD
  • The orchestral score on a vinyl 180g LP
Yea, that's right. You get the orchestral score on a fucking vinyl. That, my friends, is service.

Like said above, the three posters in this SE looks like the ones that were rolled up into the wine bottles that they scattered amongst 10 beaches around the world. If so, my $150 purchase on eBay was all for naught.

And this post marks #100 for Destroyed Controller. Whoop whoop!

Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition Coming State-side

It was inevitable, as Capcom has announced Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition will be coming to both PS3 and 360 in a retail compilation on March 9 for $50.

The PS3 has a slight benefit over the 360, as everything is on a single disc. The 360 version has the extra content on a DVD with a voucher code.

The missions will be released separately before the Gold Edition hits. The first one, "Lost in Nightmares," will be coming February 17/18 (one hell of a birthday present, albeit a few days early for myself) with a costume pack, and the second, unnamed chapter and another costume pack will be March 3/4 for the 360/PS3, respectively.

As per my prediction, I was 3 weeks off. Okay, maybe that one sucked, but this announcement pegs it on the same day as my prediction for God of War III.

Oh, and that's the same day as Final Fantasy XIII. Good luck with that, Capcom.

No More Heroes for Xbox 360/PS3 February 25

Yea, I'm not fucking with you, you've got a brand new NMH game coming your way, and you'll be able to see Travis Touchdown in the hi-def glory that he was originally intended to be (yes, for those who don't know, NMH was originally supposed to be on the 360 and PS3, but then Nintendo announced the Wii).

Subtitled Heroes' Paradise, it's been confirmed by Famitsu with screens (uploaded and shared by another blogspoter) and it shows of a new mode, called Very Sweet. What that is, I have no idea, as I can't read Japanese.

What I want to know is if this is mearly a remake of the first game, or something completely new. Considering the way the apostrophe is used on "hereos," it implies the paradise is for multiple heroes, which could lead to the suggestion that we could be playing as other Heroes other than Travis.

Be that it may, NMH making it's HD debut. Awesome.
